College of DuPage (COD) is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), one of six regional accrediting agencies in the United States.

Regional accrediting agencies provide the most highly respected type of accreditation for colleges and universities, and are recognized by both the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).  Some of the benefits of regional accreditation include eligibility to offer federal financial aid, acceptance of transfer credits by other regionally accredited schools, and assurance that the education is of a high-quality.

On December 9, 2015, the Higher Learning Commission Board of Trustees placed College of DuPage on probation.  This action was taken because of concerns related to “operating with integrity and governance of the College.” Click here to read the Higher Learning Commission Public Disclosure Notice.

During the probationary period, College of DuPage remains accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and this action does not affect COD students’ ability to receive academic credits or transfer them to another institution.

Students, parents, and others from the general public with questions regarding HLC’s work should contact John Hausaman by email at or by phone at (312) 263-0456 (x126).

As a condition of the probation, the College will submit an Assurance Filing in February 2017 and host a comprehensive evaluation by April 2017.  At that time the College will show evidence that the concerns of the Higher Learning Commission Board of Trustees have been resolved.
