Why Choose STEM?

There are many advantages to pursuing a STEM career. Here are just a few of the benefits:

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment in Science and Engineering occupations will grown by 18.7% between 2010-2020, compared to just 14.3% growth for all occupations.*

The Science and Engineering workforce has shown sustained growth for more than half a century, with an average annual growth rate of 3.3% compared to 1.5% for the total workforce.*

STEM related jobs were more resilient during and after the 2007-2009 recession compared to overall employment.*

In 2012, the median earnings for workers in STEM occupations (regardless of education level or field) were $78,270, which is more than double the median ($34,750) for all U.S. workers.*

Why Choose COD?

The College of DuPage offers many options for STEM career pursuits, from certificates and associate degrees to transfer programs to bachelor's degree partnerships.

Career and Technical Education - many STEM careers do not require a bachelor's degree, especially in areas such as computer science, manufacturing, and health sciences.

Engineering Pathways - this program provides guaranteed admission to the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. The program facilitates transfer, minimizes duplication of coursework, and builds on community college and university learning experiences.

3+1 Programs - The College of DuPage has a number of agreements with prominent universities to offer high-caliber degree programs at a greatly reduced cost. In these programs, three years of coursework are taken at COD and the fourth is taught by the partner university on COD's campus.

2+2 Programs - There are numerous offerings at COD in both traditional and enhanced 2+2 transfer programs. These transfer agreements include dual-admissions partnerships, core-to-core transfers, and program-to-program transfers.
