Physical Education Program
In recent years, careers in physical education have become more specialized. Students interested in physical education or related fields find numerous career opportunities in teaching, coaching, management, marketing, finance, health promotion, rehabilitation, recreation and wellness/fitness. Most of these positions require a bachelor's degree, and some require special certifications or advanced study. Teaching, coaching and administrative positions are available in schools and colleges. Agencies that provide preventative exercise programs include health clubs, corporate centers, commercial agencies, and community organizations such as recreation departments and YMCAs.
Rehabilitative exercise programs are usually conducted in health-related settings such as hospitals, clinics and sports medicine facilities. Wellness programs are growing in popularity. Exercise prescription, smoking cessation, stress management, healthy eating and weight control are popular program areas.
Coursework in exercise physiology, health, psychology and business increase the potential for opportunities in the physical education field.
